Tool Bag Update

If you haven't checked out the path of the tool bag, the web site has added a new feature called footprint. It shows the area the tool bag can be viewed above the horizon. I wish that I'd had it the other night when it passed by western Oklahoma. I might have been able to see it. I'm going to have to get a telescope...

TOOLBAG

HOT BUTTERED RUM!

Here's the recipe I got from Gracie for the hot buttered rum served at their caroling parties (no rum required if you don't imbibe):

1 lb. softened butter
1 lb. confectioners sugar
1 lb. brown sugar

Cream above ingredients together then add:

2 tsp. cinnamon
2 tsp. nutmeg
1 qt. softened vanilla ice cream

Mix well.

Use 2 T. for each cup, hot water and 1 jigger rum, sprinkle with fresh grated nutmeg or cinnamon

Enjoy it with Chuckbert's fruitcake! (BTW, how's the fruitcake coming along?)

Keep the remaining mix in the freezer.

YUM, YUM!

HAY BUDDY!

I finally got my load of hay in my barn on Sunday. It was quite an ordeal, but now I am set for over a year. WHEW! Here's how my barn looked on Sunday morning:

Iris Street Condo

Let's take a tour of the condo that Mom is planning to buy...

Here is the front door from the parking lot:

This is the designated covered parking spot for her unit:

THE EAGLE HAS LANDED!

...or in this case, it's a Goshawk. I ran out to look at it, since Jack was telling me it landed in the tree near the bird feeder, "waiting for Tweety." I said, "What am I doing!?! I have a brand.new.camera. YIKES! I ran back inside and here's what I shot using my new Sony Cybershot DSCH50 9.1MP 15X optical zoom camera

NEW MEXICO JUNIOR COLLEGE BASEBALL NEWS

I think it's official. Maybe the board has to convene and vote, but Josh was selected to head the baseball program at New Mexico Junior College. Things are certainly coming together for that young man!

Another Quilt for a Baby

This quilt is for Jack's sister Jill's granddaughter, Montana. She is already a year and a half, but I made it twin size so she can use it forever! She should receive it on Monday, I hope!

A Quilt for PAGRS

I made this quilt for P-doobie. It was intended for her birthday, but I did not finish it in time. I gave it to her when Chuckbert and JerBear were here, then asked for it back so I can enter it in the County Fair in August. YIKES! Poor Pagrs won't get it till after it wins a ribbon (I'm a little sure of myself, eh?).

Bandelier National Monument Bomb Scare

We took off this morning to show Alison's parents and brother Bandelier. When we reached the visitor center, they were evacuating buildings due to a bomb scare. We stayed in the shade for about an hour before they sent everyone home: one.car.at.a.time. They were waiting for bomb sniffing dogs to arrive so they completely closed the park. What a bunch of wackos live and survive in this world!

Bobbie and the Senator

I had forgotten that last July 2, Senator Pete Dominici and a whole gaggle of other high level dignitaries toured through PF-4 (commonly known as "the Plant") and I went over with a bunch of workers in there to meet and greet. I got my picture taken. He even pinched my cheek (with his bad hand, yet!) Here it is for all eternity!

To the left of me in the first picture is my friend, Trish.

P.S. The gray haired guy (with gray whiskers on his chin) in the left of each picture is our illustrious Director.

Fire Danger is HIGH!

Wednesday a fire broke out in a little south and west of White Rock. Jack paged me at work and when I called home, he said, "Can you come home now!?!" I asked what was wrong...I immediately thought, horses! dog! husband! He told me about the fire and wanted me to come home right away. (We are all kinda freaked when we see smoke so close.) I called the police to ask where the fire was because he couldn't really tell. They told me Ancho Canyon (from my house along St. Rd. 4 towards Bandelier, it's where you drop into the canyon before climbing out atop the mesa where the entrance to Bandelier is). I went home and he had the Brand. New. Horse Trailer. hooked up and ready to go.

We listened to KRSN...not much on, but there is a new AM station run by Emergency Management for Los Alamos County. They had snippets of information that were more useful. The fire was contained Wednesday night sometime. It burned about 10 acres. Fire crews from several agencies helped and there were two slurry bombers. One flew right over us really low. I'm standing there looking at it (with my mouth hanging open...) and then thought, "Where is my camera!?!?" Too late! They flew around in circles for a long time.

Apparently, a test was being conducted (after a RED FLAG WARNING was issued due to extremely high winds): Story

I'm so glad they put it out because the winds were blowing from south towards us! Could you imagine another government agency caused fire! YIKES! YIKES! YIKES!

EXCELSIOR!

I was re-reading one of my Mary Stuart stories "Airs Above the Ground" and the heroine said, "Whither thou goest, I will follow. Excelsior." That got me laughing and thinking about P-Doobie with hand puppets quoting Longfellow. I looked up "Excelsior" on Wikipedia and found the poem and thought we should all read it again!

A. BIG. DAMN. SNAKE ! !

This evening when I went down to the barn to feed the horses, this is what I saw trying to hide under a hay bale:

After I looked at it...a bull snake (I checked the tail)...I ran to the house to get Jack and show it to him. When we got back down there, there was another one. They were both about the same size...BIG! Maybe four feet long. He (she?)was going across the opening in the front of the barn. Before that, I scared it and it went into the stall where Barney was eating and Barney got scared. He jumped around and so the snake got scared and came out and went into the stall next door. I took three great pictures of it, but had the lens cap on, so they really weren't so great!

I tried to get a close-up, but it moved away too fast.

...and ended up going under a pile of lumber in one of the stalls.

I'm wondering if I interrupted a mating ritual...

Erito Burrito Quilt

Izzy sent me pix of Erito's quilt. Remember...it was the first one I finished. I still have the first one I started, which will be mine someday! I had planned to hand quilt it, but since it is king sized and I don't have a quilt frame, I was beating up the batting, so I decided to machine quilt it. Sometimes when I have spare time, I get it out and quilt, but I haven't made much progress. So enjoy this one...

Who is this handsome lad...? ! ?
