Wednesday a fire broke out in a little south and west of White Rock. Jack paged me at work and when I called home, he said, "Can you come home now!?!" I asked what was wrong...I immediately thought, horses! dog! husband! He told me about the fire and wanted me to come home right away. (We are all kinda freaked when we see smoke so close.) I called the police to ask where the fire was because he couldn't really tell. They told me Ancho Canyon (from my house along St. Rd. 4 towards Bandelier, it's where you drop into the canyon before climbing out atop the mesa where the entrance to Bandelier is). I went home and he had the Brand. New. Horse Trailer. hooked up and ready to go.
We listened to KRSN...not much on, but there is a new AM station run by Emergency Management for Los Alamos County. They had snippets of information that were more useful. The fire was contained Wednesday night sometime. It burned about 10 acres. Fire crews from several agencies helped and there were two slurry bombers. One flew right over us really low. I'm standing there looking at it (with my mouth hanging open...) and then thought, "Where is my camera!?!?" Too late! They flew around in circles for a long time.
Apparently, a test was being conducted (after a RED FLAG WARNING was issued due to extremely high winds):
StoryI'm so glad they put it out because the winds were blowing from south towards us! Could you imagine another government agency caused fire! YIKES! YIKES! YIKES!
